I wrote this short story about some friends and I having a gaming experience many years back on January 26th this year. I am reposting it here now. It occurs to me that I could have been more descriptive regarding Angmar’s mighty axe/sword shield etc 😉 but I am posting it as is when I wrote it and posted it elsewhere at the time. He’s a good guy Angmar, he befriended me when I had no one in my life as a friend/buddy and his friendship picked up my spirit when it really needed it, also Kissa his roommate was really sweat and cool and I was glad to have her as a friend to. I wish them well where ever there paths have taken them, I hope someday ours will cross again.

A memory came to me this morning of a friend who may or may not be lost but is not forgotten. His name then was Angmar and he was a Dwarf Paladin and although we met in a electronics store in 2001 the memory takes place in a realm known as Norrath. I myself at the time and place went by the Ganktek I was a Gnome Rogue, on this adventure with us was Kissa a Human Druid and at least one other adventurer that I was not familiar with. We were after loot and exp in The Tower of Frozen Shadow a dangerous place filled with vampires and other undead creatures and the site of a Ceremony which has an untold story, clearly due to the abysmal destiny if completed which none dared to speak of who may have known.

Our group worked our way through the labyrinth of traps and undead foes and floor by floor we climbed the Tower. We found ourselves at a dead end, two rooms, one on either side of the hallway and in the room on the right was Tserinna Syl’Tor a Dark Elf who had a terrible curse and vile profession, a formidable foe indeed. Angmar pulled our foe into the hallway and we engaged in combat, the battle went on for several minutes and I as a Rogue was repeatedly backstabbing Tserinna, my mistake was doing so recklessly with no restraint and the result was despite Angmar’s ability to taunt any foe as a Paladin does I drew the aggression of our foe onto myself. As a result Kissa our healer was unable to maintain her mana as her heals who should have gone to Angmar who as a well armored Paladin who could sustain the attacks of Tserinna far more effectively than I as a Rogue in leather armor. Kissa shouted “out of mana” and Angmar as was his role made the choice he knew he had to make and shouted “RUN”…he knew we no longer had a chance to defeat the powerful vampire we were facing, she was to strong and our healer no longer was able to heal. Kissa and the other adventurer began to run but I in a moment of foolishness and inexperience did not heed his command, I stubbornly continued my flurry of attacks with my daggers against the undead creature…and I fell. The next to fall was Kissa who because of her healing was the next to draw the aggression of Tserinna. The last to fall was Angmar. We found ourselves again as happens in Norrath back at our places of binding, Angmar knew what my mistake had been and said to me, “When I say RUN, you RUN we had no chance and I knew we were going to wipe, if you guys had run away I could have gotten agro and yeah I would have died, but you could have come back and Kissa could have resurrected me, that’s my role, I’m the tank!”
And so today I remember with fondness my friend Angmar The Tank.
